Bed space in Deira: prices, buildings and what to expect

Deira is the cheapest established area for sharing in Dubai — around AED 700 a month. What that gets you, and who it suits.

Deira is the cheapest established place to share in Dubai. Across the 13 listings live on Qozey there at the time of writing, prices run from AED 500 to AED 1,800, with the middle around AED 700 — the lowest median of any area on this site.

What is available

Mostly bed spaces, with a handful of partitions. Around a third of the listings include kitchen access, which is high for Dubai and matters if you plan to cook rather than eat out.

Why it is cheap, and what you trade

Deira is old Dubai: dense, busy, built decades before the towers. What you actually trade for the price is building age and quiet — older lifts and plumbing, and streets that do not stop. What you do not trade is connectivity. Deira is among the best-connected parts of the city, served by Union, Al Rigga, Baniyas Square, Abu Hail and Al Ras.

For anyone commuting by Metro, that combination — lowest rents in the city, on two lines — is the reason Deira stays full.

Who it suits

  • Anyone saving as hard as possible.
  • Anyone working in Deira, Bur Dubai or along the Green Line.
  • New arrivals who want to keep commitments short while they learn the city.

Who it does not

If you need quiet to sleep, or you work in Media City or the Marina and would face an hour each way, the saving is not real. Pick your area by commute first.

What to check here specifically

  1. Which floor, and does the lift work? In older buildings this is a genuine question.
  2. How many people in the room. The cheapest Deira beds are cheap partly because of density.
  3. AC condition. Ask when it was last serviced — it matters more here than anywhere.
  4. Kitchen access, if you cook.

What AED 600 gets you in Deira

A bunk in a room of four to six, in an older building, sharing a bathroom, bills included, a short walk from a Metro station. That is the honest description. Plenty of people rent exactly that and are content, because they are out of the house eleven hours a day and would rather send the difference home.

Before you pay anything: what to check before you pay a deposit.
